All religions explained

Episode 11 · December 22, 2025 · 1 hr 25 min

Every religion says it has the answer, and most say everyone else is doomed. XO works through them all: Buddhism as just being human (like a dog), reincarnation stories from kids, Hinduism's gurus, deism's clockmaker God, Islam's view of earlier scriptures, and the problem of evil. Still has questions.

About this episode

Every religion says it has the answer to where we come from, why we're here, and what happens when we die, and most say everyone else is doomed. XO reacts to a breakdown of the world's religions, starting with the only thing XO knows for sure: that XO doesn't know.

The tour covers Buddhism as just being human (like a dog), pagan gods and Hindu reincarnation, kids who remember past lives, acting as if karma is real, deism's clockmaker God, Judaism's orthodox-to-reform range, Islam's view of earlier scriptures, Christianity, and the problem of evil. Still has questions.

0:00You've probably had questions like where do we come from? Or where do we go after we die? What's our purpose? Or do we even have one? You know, what's the reason for existence? And all of these questions can be answered in a whole bunch of different religions. Different religions that are claiming to know exactly what happens after you die. exactly what our purpose and meaning in life is. The problem with that is when you have all these questions and you're looking at all of these conflicting answers, it's really hard to resolve that loop. You know, how do you know which answer is the answer, the correct answer? So many different religions, not only do they say that they're the answer, they say if you decide to follow a different religion or you decide to believe a different answer, you'll be condemned for eternity after you die, despite whether or not you being a good person, that has nothing to do with it.

1:16What did you believe? What did you have faith in? And the video that inspired this episode today is by somebody that goes by Redeem Zoomer. And the video is called All Religions Explained in 10 Minutes. And honestly, I'm hoping that out of the sea of answers that there's a bit of clarity that we could find. maybe some common ground where we are obviously all questioning the same things and the certainty that people have on their answer or religion whatever way you want to look at it the certain pe certainty people have it's it's intoxicating you know like that it sounds so good to to know oh you you know the answer like your your faith is unwavering.

2:18I can tell, but so is theirs. And you two contradict each other. You two both have a decent set of principles and morals. And I mean, objectively, you seem like good people. Can you can you help draw the line somewhere for me? Because I'm not seeing why one of you should be condemned and the other one shouldn't or vice versa depending on who's right or what if neither of you are right and both of you get condemned so to speak I don't know again a lot of questions

3:02Why are there so many different religions well it's because different religions are different answers to the biggest questions of life so that's why people care so much about this Question one, is there a god? And if so, how many? Some people don't believe in any gods or any kind of spirituality at all. These people are called atheists. Atheists don't necessarily believe God doesn't exist. Some of them simply lack a belief that God does exist. So, some are more agnostic about it. But generally, atheists think we don't have any reason to believe in anything beyond the material universe. But some people who don't

3:38See the way when I first heard of an atheist when I was growing up, it was, you know, it was very dark. It was demonic. It was almost equivalent with being like a Satan worshipper. And obviously being a Satanist is completely different than being an atheist. But again, when I was young, I couldn't really see the difference. I couldn't see how somebody who didn't believe in God was not at all the same as somebody that says, you know, all hell Satan as their their uh leader or worshiper, whatever the they would call it, you know. Um I think uh the whole certainty that atheists have though because you see in in parenthesis dude said agnostic.

4:40That's the difference between saying I don't know and saying I know for sure that there's nothing. I think the certainty that atheists have, it's just it's a religion in and of itself. You know, they uh their religion is just not believing in anything after life that hey, you know, you you have a good run, you have a good life, but when the lights are out, the lights are out. Goodbye. It's just a dark room. uh your your soul so to speak that you're talking about. No, it ceases to exist. It's done. You're just worm food. Can you be certain of that? Is that because you know there's there's again nothing that you see that says anything different?

5:35But how do you know? Just because you see a body starting to decay or whatever, it goes six feet under and actually literally becomes worm food or whatever the case is, you know, they they're so certain that just because they don't see anything, there's nothing else there. How do you know somebody has a soul? I mean, it can't really can't really be defined. It can't be measured. It can't be. I don't know. How do you know? Is this faith? Well, if you can't prove that you have a soul and you can't prove that you don't have a soul, what's the answer? Well, the answer can't be automatically, well, you don't have one. Duh. Can't prove that you do. Well, you can't prove that you don't. So, I don't know.

6:34My mind goes straight to innocent until proven guilty type of thing. But it's obviously apples and oranges. You have to you have to prove either way. Being certain either way is likely to be a miscalculation only because I mean what do what do we know? We only know what we can see. We only can see what we can perceive. And we already know based on the science that we have now that there's so many other different dimensions and lights and infrared and whatever the There's so many different things that are happening right now that we just don't pick up. Like we just we're just not built like that. And that's not a bad thing. But let's acknowledge that there's a little bit of mystery in this world.

7:34That should be exciting. So the certainty that an atheist would have, it leads me to the same skept skepticism that I would get when I look at the certainty that anybody of any other religion would have. Agnosticism is probably where I would lean to the closest from what I've been able to tell. Just like I don't I don't know. I'm not sure. I'm open to it. I believe like you know that there is something bigger. What do you call that? God, the universe consciousness. I don't know. But it's it's just a feeling and I I know better than to trust those with certainty.

8:32The only thing that I know with 100% certainty is that I don't know I don't know. But people people say they have the answer to all of these different questions. Which one is right?

8:51Believe in God. still believe in some kind of spirituality. And according to Buddhists, that spirituality should why. Buddhism does not teach that Buddha was a god, nor did Buddha teach about any gods. But Buddha did teach about the ultimate red pill, which is that life is basically just suffering. At the root of suffering is desire. Those are the four noble truths. Number one, life sucks. Number two, life sucks cuz you want stuff. Three, if you stop wanting stuff, then your life won't suck. Number four, there's a path you can take to not want stuff anymore. It's simple, really. The more you desire something, the more disappointed you're going to be when you don't get it. For example, the more you disappointed you're going to be when she rejects you. And she will. The more you love money, the more disappointed you're going to be when the economy crashes. And it will. This sounded so savage, so ruthless. And she will. She's going to reject you, bro.

9:50Like, it's going to happen. I mean, statistically, you can't always put all your eggs in one basket. You're going to get some nose, right? Sometimes it's all in the numbers. And I could see I could see how that's very attractive to somebody because yeah, the more you want something, the more it just hits when you don't get it. It's something about when you get your hopes up about something and it doesn't come through, it makes it worse. And I'll be real, I sometimes I'll try to like trick myself and do the whole reverse psychology on myself. Even though I know I'm trying to play this trick, it's just like, you know, whatever. It might happen. If if it does, it does. If it doesn't, it doesn't. It's whatever. It is what it is. Try to be very stoic about it.

10:45Very uh nonchalant, but damn, deep down, I guess I'm just a hopeless hoper. I hope about things. I have hope for things, I guess. Um yeah, when there's when there's like the idea or the prospect of something, I I do I kind of start running through my head like that actually happening and you know, okay, like wow, like then this would happen, you know? I start running through the map. It does suck when you get your hopes up and it comes crashing down. But is the answer just to stop wanting it? Is there not some sort of balance? She's going to reject you, bro. Best off.

11:42Don't even want it. It's kind of like one of those, you know, I can't get what I want, so I trick myself to what, you know, want what I can get or whatever the So, I don't know. I heard that somewhere. So that it's it feels like one of those like you you ain't going to get the date anyways. Why even ask her? Why why go up trying to push up telling her how you feel, how she looks, whatever? She's just going to think you creepy. She's just going to reject you. It's better off that you don't even want her in the first place. don't want anything. Anything that you want. You want that ice cream. You don't need the ice cream. You don't want it. You never wanted it in the first place.

12:37Now, don't you feel better? You don't have it. But because you didn't want it, you don't have that feeling of I really want this to happen. And it just, you know, not going the way that you expected. It kind of falls apart right in front of your face and it's like, damn, you get to avoid that. Don't you feel good? You just found the path to enlightenment where you no longer want anything. The economy is going to crash, so why want money in the first place? I understand that money can get you things, but why want those things in the first place? I understand that you might have a family that you may need to support one day. So, you need this money, but why get the family?

13:35Because why ask the girl when you didn't need to want the girl in the first place? Because she's just going to reject you, bro. You avoid this cycle of wanting something and it just not coming through. But damn, you avoid a lot of other things too. My first feeling, and this is obviously no disrespect, always looked at Buddhism honestly, like wow, if you're like a Buddhist monk or something like that, you know, you're real chill like you're peaceful. like you yet enlightened like you you have a clarity that most people would never achieve. That's how I always looked at a Buddhist person. But I hate to say my first my first reaction when I'm hearing this is kind of like cowardice.

14:40You know, you just you're scared that again she's gonna just reject you, bro. So, don't even want her in the first place. And that's the way that he says it. Maybe they would say it more eloquently, but if that's the gist of it, where, hey, eventually things aren't going to go how you want them to. Even if it's going how you want them to right now, eventually it's going to it's going to take a a sharp right turn. You're going to be like, "Holy shit." To avoid that, avoid it all. And he said that they don't necessarily believe in God. Like there's a Buddha isn't necessarily a god, which is something that I didn't know. So that's pretty cool. So it's not even like this is God saying which you know what I mean is that one of those just do what I say cuz it's coming from God not from me.

15:44Is it almost you know the opposite what I was saying earlier there is no cowardice and just saying you know what there's I'm not God but this is how you reach peace and honestly I believe you if you truly can train yourself to the point like Buddhist monks seem to be able to where you don't want anything. I believe you that yeah your suffering is you know basically zero. I guess I just wonder how much of their joy gets measured. how much of their, you know, I was gonna say fulfillment, but I even wonder if they they probably are fulfilled.

16:45That that's kind of like one of those initial questions that I have. Like, you know, like what is our purpose? Do we have any? If you can find purpose and you're putting in all your focus into just being completely grounded and not wanting anything outside of yourself and just being human, you know, you look at a dog and it's it's just a dog. Like, it's not sitting here going through any existential crisises and like that. You know what I mean? It's it's just being a dog. And maybe that's what being Buddhist is. Is just humans being human, not worrying about all the external and all the things that just slow down so many people nowadays. just uh sends people directly towards anti-depressants and you know alcohol and drugs and anything to escape this cycle that they have found themselves in.

18:01Maybe a Buddhist is just saying, "Yep, y'all do that, but I'm just going to be human." Maybe they look at people like the modern person the same way where if you're freaking out about, I don't know, like a report you had to get turned into your boss or some like that and your dog's just kind of like looking at you, you know, just putting their head to the side like they going on about. Anyways, goes back to licking their crotch. You know what I'm saying? Like going to go back to being a dog. H. So, is it cowardly? Is it cowardly? Or is it just simple minimalistic? You know, like the the most minimalistic way to live your life. Just do do nothing but be a human.

19:05You got to stop being so attached to all these worldly pleasures. So you need to break that attachment by denying yourself and then you can be spiritually free. Life is a cycle of pain. But if you eliminate your desire, you can free and achieve nirvana which is true spiritual bliss. Now some people want spiritual freedom but do not want to deny themselves. This kind of spirituality isn't about self-denial at all. It's about the opposite, self-affirmation. It doesn't like the submission involved in traditional religion, but still wants to have the spiritual meaning that traditional religion can provide. It's about the freedom to pave your own spiritual path. So, because it's all about spiritual libertarianism, it's not an organized religion, but it's a decentralized set of practices that are becoming increasingly popular among Westerners, particularly women. Bro, I feel like there are so many people out there that one of their first things they say is, "What's your sign?"

20:15Or something happens and then they say, "Oh, that's because you're putting whatever your sign is there." I would say that's a religion. the first fully immersive Add Intelligent adaptive.

20:37Damn. But uh yeah, I don't know. He had yoga on there. Is yoga a religion? Is that the same the same type of thing? I don't I don't know if uh people that are practicing yoga I don't know if they're necessarily looking for like some sort of spiritual enlightenment or anything like that. I don't know. That feels like a stretch. Oh, that's a stretch. Pun was not intended. But uh yeah, the tarot the tarot cards. I've seen I've seen a movie I think called tarot where you you draw the different cards. How many people I wonder how many people actually look at these different things like tarot cards or you know reading the horoscopes.

21:35That's going to be a big one. yoga I guess. You know what I'm saying? Some people might look at I wonder how many people look at these things as seriously as a Christian would look at Christianity or you know what I mean u and anybody else I guess like a Jewish person with Judaism or or whatever the Buddhist person with Buddhism continue to fill in the blanks. I wonder if the horoscopist looks at horoscopism as a religion, you know, tarot cardism, yoga. We're just going to keep adding ism to make it a religion. But I wonder if they look at it just as seriously. I know people that they they get the horoscopes or whatever. I feel like there's a whole ton of people that look at that as a very serious thing.

22:35Like this isn't for play. This is actually like if you know you go deep in it, you look at what time you were born during what year under what moon or whatever the You know what I'm saying? It's like there's actually something there. And what if there's something there? I don't know. My my first instinct is to kind of like scoff at it. I never really got big into it. Um, but it's cuz I'm a Libra. You know how Libras are. I don't I don't But I bet I could just say that statement and that made sense to somebody. It's just like, "Oh, he's a liver. That makes sense why he would say something like that." I um I never really bought into it. Um, but I'm not 100% against it. You know, if I actually start to think deeper on it, you look at how many different cultures look at the stars as a way to have some sort of insight into the universe and the meaning of life, whatever.

23:47I mean, and then there's another part of me that's just like, okay, but of course there's so many cultures. Before we had all this light pollution, if you would look up, there would just be a sea of stars. Like the way that you see it and like telescopes, like only in pictures and Now, if you don't have a telescope, this is where people were just able to look up and see. Even when you go out into the country, bro, it's still is nothing compared to how it used to be. Before we had no lights coming off from the earth, man. I mean, you ain't got TV. You ain't you ain't really got you ain't really got nothing else to look at once the sun goes down. I mean, you're making sure you're not getting eaten and like that, but damn, you look up. Sure enough, every single day, and then you might start to notice patterns. You might start to notice little differences and shifts and like that. Of course, stories would start to pop up.

24:47Yeah, that's the other part of me that's just kind of like running through like how this would logistically start to happen and how it kind of just makes sense that people would look at the the skies or the stars in particular as uh as an answer. But the way that people are so certain about it now, there's that word again, certainty. you know, people are so certain about things. It's like where I think that that is what people are really drawn to. It's it's the clarity, the knowing because then I don't have to think about these questions. Ah, like it's just it's all better now. Anytime something happens and anything starts to feel like one of those questions that I just got rid of, I could just turn towards this and ah, there it is. It's better again. I got my answer now. I got my clarity.

25:48I don't know. I wish I could trick myself into being that certain about something. or I wish something would happen that was so overwhelmingly proof of whatever the fill in the blank the answer religion what practice I don't know whatever you want to say yeah that would be that'd be nice it'd be real nice to be like ah like I know for a fact yeah I bet it's intoxicating to have that much clarity about something. I bet it is.

26:28Now, some people believe in many gods like some pagans and Hindus. The difference is that Hindus believe in reincarnation. Pagans are usually polytheists, which means they believe in many gods. The gods usually represent forces in nature. The sun, there's a god for that. The moon, there's a god for that. The sky, there's a god for that. The sea, there's a god for that. Your crops, there's a god for that. So because there's a god for every area of life, if you want to succeed in a certain area of life, you need to win the favor of that particular god. And often different cultures have different versions of the same gods. Another thing is the gods of paganism are a lot more anthropomorphic or humanlike than they are in other religions. The gods are a lot more powerful than humans, but they're still both finite. They're not all powerful. Just like humans, gods will fight each other, get drunk, reproduce, and make mistakes. Okay. Okay. Now, do Hindus also believe in

27:22Okay, that's that's crazy. I wonder um I wonder again how many people still believe in that Is there anybody out there that is still believing in like a Zeus or Poseidon or, you know, all the different Greek gods or Roman gods or fill in the blank. I'm not too sure about, you know, other religions that were like like paganism or whatever the I mean, didn't the Egyptians, they uh worship multiple gods? Like you see that in the different horoscopes and like that like somebody like for the sun and exactly what he was just saying where it's for the different things. Oh, the rain god is pleased and that's why we have finally escaped this drought. we are in this drought because we've upset the rain god or the sun god or I'm just talking out of my ass obviously.

28:26Um but yeah, I wonder is that more like looking back like that's just historical type of thing. I know he's saying Hinduism is also is is uh people that believe in multiple gods, but as far as the particular like the Greek gods and like that other than Hindus, is is that common? Does somebody really wake up and they see like a a rainy day and it's just like ah no I didn't I didn't do my rain dance and that's that got me up cuz now traffic's going to be all backed up. I'm going to be late for work. I got questions, man. I got questions.

29:22Are a lot more powerful than humans, but they're still both finite. They're not all powerful. Just like humans, gods will fight each other, get drunk, reproduce, and make mistakes.

29:31That's how the they say the neph Well, it's kind of complicated because there are indeed many gods in Hinduism, but they're all part of the same ultimate reality. Hindus believe that the one ultimate reality encompasses everything, but it's received in many different ways. They believe there can be many incarnations of God or the gods. And that's why it's okay to worship idols because the divine expresses itself through the physical. This is why Hinduism has a more pluralistic approach. Instead of having a strict cannon of what you must believe the way some religions do, Hinduism is more like a buffet where you can choose to believe what best suits you because God can be received in different ways. Hinduism also believes that reality is a cycle. So that's why they believe in karma and reincarnation.

30:20Damn. I feel like I feel like damn Hinduism is the most open and they say it's just a buffet. So you get to just choose. It's not set in stone. You know this you will praise Jesus Christ or Allah or you know fill in the blank. It's okay. God is in everything. So would this be the one answer? I don't know. Maybe the other ones too. It's not like he's really getting into it. But I wonder if Hinduism is one of the answers where you're not necessarily condemned if you don't believe in it. Like yeah, it's okay you believe in Jesus Christ. And um it's okay that you believe in Allah. It's okay that you uh you don't necessarily believe in God. you're Buddhist and you're just trying to, you know, let go of all of your wants and desires so that you can achieve nirvana.

31:16It's okay if you're whatever because God is in all of this and you get to choose. That's um that's the buffet. I'm I'm wondering if uh that extends to other religions or if you're strictly you are a Hindu and you know that that's the practice and you know that's when it's like okay I'm going to believe in fill in the blank with one of the different gods that he just popped up on the screen. I don't know. And now he's saying reincarnation and karma. So reality happens in a cycle. So that's the okay. You are born because you died in a past lifetime and you what's crazy is that could be one of those two where it's like whatever.

32:16But you can't really explain the crazy stories which I I can't even like think of anything specifically. But um I know I've seen in like different documentaries or maybe like an Ancient Aliens episode or some like that where it'll be these kids that have a memory of somebody that truly was alive hundreds of years before and you know they're saying I lived here and this is who I was and this is what I did and they're they're able to fill in all of these different blanks and when the parents are just like okay like what do you mean you were somebody else? What do you mean you've been alive before? And the parents finally start to track down some of the things that their child is saying. They're like, "Hold on. This person was actually alive. This person person actually lived in the place that they say they live."

33:15I think there might even I might be wrong on this, but I swear there was one where they might even like was able to speak a different language. I don't know. I might be getting mixed up with like a like a possession movie or some But no, for I know for sure where it's like they'll have these inexplicable stories that actually link up with, you know, factual history. And there's no way where it's like, how did my five or sixyear-old, you know, know this? And there's no way. We live on the opposite side of the world. We never talk about this. And a skeptic person could be like, "Yeah, well, what if the parent just found this person and fed it into the child's ear?" Um, at that young age, our brain is really just like a sponge. It's just constantly absorbing stuff. And, you know, subconsciously, this kid could have just been paritting out some of the things that the parent was just putting into um, you know, their brain.

34:16So, I I get that there is, you know, there's room for doubt there. That's kind of like the mystery part again where like who knows? I don't know. I don't know. That's what I know for sure. It's like I don't know. But damn, that is compelling where it's not just one person. It's not just, you know, a couple families. It's happening, you know, time and time again. reincarnation. I don't know. Some people might not be as quick to believe in that literally, but I think you also hear a lot of uh you hear it in like like common phrases, you know, when when something happens, it's like, man, I must have did something in a past life or some I don't know what I did in a past life to deserve this or to bring me this.

35:19You know, it's something something I did before. It's not my fault. And maybe that's just, you know, the brain finding some way to have a scapegoat. Uh, you know, getting away from the blame of it all. It's not my fault. It's something that happened in a previous lifetime. It's just catching up to me somehow. Great. Or they might make jokes saying, you know, uh, in in the past life I I was I was a butterfly or maybe the the next life I want to be a turtle. It's not even not even necessarily uh saying what was. It's what I want next. Man, it would be cool if you know I came back and I was like a a a shark or some like that. A tiger. I don't know. You know, you fill in the blank. people will say these things even if they're not necessarily Hindu and I don't know it's just kind of being the person on the outside looking in at what people will cling to will be okay with you know it's not just reincarnation that he said that because reality happens in a cycle they believe in karma Well, man.

36:38You don't have to be Hindu to believe in karma. I mean, honestly, like I I don't I don't know for sure. That's not what I have I don't have the certainty that we're talking about, but damn. If you said gun to your head, what you going to what you going to decide? Is karma real or is karma not? Be like, damn, karma's karma's probably real. Damn, I don't know. See, I would have to and then he would be like, bro, never mind. Game over. And, you know, I'll just be lying on the floor and be gone. Wouldn't have time for me. Just be like, damn. Yeah, karma is real. But but is that just the meaning that we put to it? Like I did some bad and deep down I feel bad and then something ends up happening and it's because I did that bad thing.

37:41This is why this is happening. Again, it's not my fault, you know, or even if it's just a dumb luck like you get in an accident or something like damn it. This is because I called Susan at work a yesterday after she took my lunch that clearly had my name on it. Susan and she is a But I called her that and of course now I'm in this accident. Karma. Karma's a damn Karma's the Or maybe maybe you were driving a little reckless. Maybe they were driving a little reckless. Maybe it was just a dumb luck accident. Maybe fill in the blank and we just went to find answers. Damn. Is it that certainty word again? We just want to be certain about something like ah why did this happen to me?

38:40Oh, it's this. Why me? And then it's it's this. Maybe that's why religion is just so enticing. you know, Lord, why has thou for forsaken me or whatever. Um, when I say whatever, obviously I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I just don't know the exact words. I just know the gist of it, mostly from like TV shows and movies and from the few times I've gone to church. You know what I'm saying? So, obviously, no disrespect intended. But I feel like people, they like the certainty of when something bad happens, it's just like, oh, God is sending this to test me. Knows he knows I'll be strong.

39:35I'll be able to get through this. You know, won't send me anything that I'm not strong enough to get through. Maybe it's just us consoling ourselves with the whole human thing. And what if that's why the Buddhists are just like, see, y'all are over here talking about that's why we don't even talk about God over here. Cuz talking about why thou forsaken me? You know what I mean? Like why why is this happening to me? It must be karma. You guys are over here asking all these questions. We don't even care about none of that We don't want it. We don't want it. Just throw it away. If it doesn't bring peace, just throw it away. We don't need it. But karma, man, karma is one of those where I'm inclined to believe it.

40:35I act as if it's real. How about that? Whether it's true or not, I act as if karma is real. And maybe it's just like that final that final line where even if you do go to do something that goes against your, you know, moral integrity or whatever, just like she's like, "Wait, wait." Just like as a double check, like, "Hey, you know, karma's a What what if the what if something like this happened to you?" Or what if, you know what I mean? just maybe it's just uh yeah another way kind of like any of these other religions to just be like hey keep keep your society in check don't don't be a piece of because you know you reap what you sow it's going to end up coming back around karma's going to find you one way or another so you might as well you know just be a decent like It's not too much to ask.

41:43A lot of these answers are starting to feel similar, even if they have different names.

41:51They believe there's a hierarchy of life forms, and if you earn bad karma in this life, you'll move down the hierarchy in the next life. There's also a hierarchy of people, and if you earn good karma in this life, you can move up the hierarchy in the next life. So you could say Hindus are monotheist. The difference is

42:08Oh Okay. So if you come back as an animal, that means you did Like you didn't do good. You didn't like you didn't you didn't do good at all. Like I want to come back as a butterfly. Well, you up. You up because you were human. That was at the top of the damn the damn pyramid he just showed. And if you up for real for real, like you really up. you coming back as a flower dog, like just as a little plant, as a vine, as a weed. And how do you even make yourself better as a weed? How do you earn points as a weed? Imagine if you get down to the weed level. How do you like you just like watch out? You move a little bit so the other weeds can get some sunlight, too. You share. What What is it like to be a weed? the Because if a weed can't give itself any points, that means, you know what I mean?

43:10Like a weed, I mean, you get it cut down really quick. You're just going to keep coming back over and over as a weed because you never got enough points. That's That's wild. And I wonder if like different plants like how they said like there's a hierarchy of different plants or different humans whatever where it's like you could be at the very top the best of the humans I guess. I wonder if that same type of logic applies to the animals and the plants like is an insect lower than a reptile and a reptile is lower than a bird and a bird's lower than a mammal. But at the end of the day, a mammal is only exceptional if it's the human mammal. What about a chimp? Does that mean like, you know, a chimpanzee, like the most humanl looking that isn't human?

44:11Does that mean that they are as close to the human level as as you could get? They just got to get a couple more points. Don't do anything crazy. I don't know, man. There's levels to this for the Hindus. Coming back and came back as a Venus fly trap, bro. You up. You up.

44:43They believe God is one with the universe rather than separate from it, which is similar to how Sikhs think of God. The difference is that Hindus worship idols and Sikhs do not. Sikhism strictly only believes in one god but not in the way that western religions do because western religions see God as something outside and external to the universe. Whereas Sikism would agree with Hinduism that God is one with the world. But unlike Hinduism, they do not think that that means we can worship idols. They see God as kind of an unknowable mystery. But they also believe that the gurus have been enlightened to teach us how to serve God and that includes working for equality and justice. Western religions on the other hand do

45:22What? Okay. All right. So the seek I've never heard of them seek. They think that God is unknowable. You can't you can't go get a idol like if you were a Hindu and worship it as if it was God which I kind of skipped past that okay so you can get like some holy item or I guess any item because God is in everything as a Hindu and you could look at that as God but a seek is like no God is everything but it's not in things but it's also unknowable so I don't know But there are these gurus that can teach us exactly how to serve these things that are not things that is everything but we don't know because they're unknowable. What what I don't know that one that one threw me off but damn isn't that kind of also what I've been saying at the same time as far as the unknowable part.

46:31God is unknowable. I just feel like that's a contradiction. God is unknowable, but it's in everything. If it's unknowable, how do you know it's in everything? That means like you there has to there's some sort of certainty there. And maybe that's because of the gurus, but if God is unknowable, how do you even become a guru to learn how to serve these gods that you don't know? I I don't know. I don't know. Maybe I'm just extra confused by this one because I've never heard of a a seek. Um, but that just it feels like it feels like a um like a loop that doesn't really like the math isn't math on that one. Math isn't math. It's either like you go all the way where you know God is in everything. got and you know you have some sort of answer or you say it's unknowable because for you to say that it's not in a thing like you can't worship idols and that's basically what I'm saying like you're telling like the difference between sik and Hindu saying that it's uh like they don't worship idols that right

47:52There means that there is some level of like certainty there that means you know something you're claiming to know something. Oh no, this God is unknowable. I don't know. So if you don't know like if you don't know everything about this God that you're believing in, how do you know that they didn't put themselves in an idol? Well, you can't worship that. How do you know that? The gurus told us. How did the gurus know that? The gods told them. The gods told them. So they know what the gods want. No. No. The gods are unknowable. But we know how to serve them. I don't know. I might have walked out on that one. It just don't make sense.

48:39You see, God is separate from the universe. And deists don't even think God interacts with the universe at all. According to deism, God is outside the universe, and he sort of set the universe in motion, but doesn't actually intervene in the natural course of events. So, Deism often compares God to a sort of clock maker for the universe. Why do they believe this? Well, deists think that from reason alone, we can figure out that God exists. But when it comes to divine revelation or supernatural miracles, then they're a lot more skeptical. So, God exists but doesn't really care. God exists but doesn't care.

49:18Damn. Can't escape the ads. No matter what religion we talking about, huh? Um, all right. So, a deistm I don't know that one that one doesn't sound too crazy for me. So, the way the way that my brain first started thinking when I heard that is God created the universe and then stepped away. Feels like simulation theory. like it feels like, okay, God created the universe or simulation and they don't really care. Like it just runs in the background every single time that you have a miracle or it's like, "Oh, why did this happen?" The same thing I was saying before where it's like, "Okay, God is just sending me a test. Oh, this happened because of my good karma." All of these different answers that people have. the deis I guess is looking at that as no that's just happy coincidence.

50:19Um if you look at the numbers some are going to end up being red some are going to be black some are going to be this some are going to be that. You know what I mean? You're going to get the different outcomes. You just got to continue to to roll the dice. So don't look at any coincidence or happy or sad, you know, fortune or misfortune. Don't look at those as some sort of divine intervention, some sort of uh miracle or blessing or anything like that. I mean, it's all about how you define a word. And you might be blessed that your luck was fortunate this time, but just know that it's not going to stay like that. That's kind of leading me back to the whole Buddhist thing where it's like see exactly eventually your number's going to be called don't even want it but a a deistm whatever they believe that there is a god but they just stepped away god is there they just don't there that's kind of it kind of feels feels like it's closer to

51:39The uh like the atheist agnostic type of camp over there. It's like yeah obviously like if you look around something created this. There is some sort of like look at the way that everything works down to like the particles and like there there's just so many different amazing things that just blow our minds every single day when we learn more and more about this universe and it just makes sense. Everything seems to have some sort of pattern to it. And obviously if you look around you can tell that something created this. Whether you want to call it God, call it the clock maker, the, you know, uh, simulator, I guess. Um, whatever, there's somebody there that did this, but they don't give a damn about any of us. The thing for them was creating it. It wasn't about checking in on the things that happened inside their creation.

52:43Effectively, God is here, but it's just a toddler that unboxed a new toy, got very excited about it, and then moved on. We are on this rock for no reason other than the fact that God wanted to create all of this, this universe. I wonder where aliens fit into this, you know, like cuz out of all the universe, there's there's got to be other species out there, intellectual beings. And out of all of those different intellectual species that are not human, how many religions do they have?

53:38How many answers do they have about this universe? I don't know. Maybe there's even more answers to the questions that we have. And all we are aware of are the answers that we have at our disposal. The ones that humans came up with. You ask a dog if a dog could speak. You ask a dog what the meaning of life is and compare it to the answer of a human answering that same question. You're going to get two different very different wildly different things. Dog might say, "Well, going for a walk, getting belly rubs." Um, my owner is the reason, you know, they they love me so much every single time I see them.

54:36They give me treats. They make sure I'm fed. They might have a whole bunch of different answers. You come across an alien species. How different are their answers going to be? What's our purpose? Where do we go? I don't know, man. More and more answers than we have questions. The Abrahamic religions believe God does care and he does interact with the universe. Okay, so how exactly did he do that? Did God become human in Jesus? And if not, is Jesus still the Messiah? Judaism doesn't think so. Judaism is about God's relationship with the Jewish people. They believe they're God's chosen people, chosen by God to bless the world by helping people live rightly, and they believe God gave them the Torah to help them accomplish that. Okay. How strictly do they follow the Torah?

55:32Well, it depends on who you ask. Some Jews follow the Torah really strictly. Some of them follow it kind of strictly, and some of them don't follow it strictly at all. They also believe in the coming of the Messiah, a Jewish superhero who's going to fix the whole world. The reason they don't believe Jesus was Messiah is because the world apparently hasn't been fixed yet, but they still believe it's their job to start fixing the world in preparation for when the Messiah does arrive. She what that one that one sounded that one sounded egotistical. Right. Right. And shut up. Don't man don't you dare go in the comments talking about anti- nothing. I just got questions and this is one of the answers. If you can't question something, then that's a red flag, just just know that.

56:36But um that one sounded egotistical as hell. We are the chosen people. I guess my immediate reaction to any answer, we'll call it But any religion that is condemning or other peopleing, you know, other other people, whatever. You know what I'm saying? Ostracizing, putting people in a a different group. It's our team versus yours. And our team is the the top ones, the chosen ones. My instant reaction is going to 10 times out of 10 just be yuck. Like gross. Like what? What?

57:35So I could see I guess why they have the different orthodox, conservative, and reform. How you have different variations of how strict people take that. I don't know. But I also don't know So it's just like I could also just be very ignorant about this whole thing. Maybe they don't look at other rel people of other religions or people that don't necessarily have any religion. They don't look at them as less than. I don't know. Just chosen people. We're the chosen people. It's just like the chosen people. I don't know the fact that I just I feel like if you were to follow a just God, you would look at verbiage like that with a skeptical eye because you're automatically saying that some of the people you created are less than some of the other ones.

58:43So God has children and he has his favorites. No, it's not about being his favorites. You're looking at it too crazy. It's just his chosen people, his helpers, God's obedient children that are helping helping reform the world, helping turn people into better people. And Jesus is not the Messiah. The Ma Messiah is still going to be coming though. But we know Jesus isn't the Messiah because the world isn't fixed. Okay. If the world is broken, how is it broken? How do you fix it? By converting people to Judaism? Um, is it like, you know what I mean, telling more people about the uh what did what did they say the the Torah?

59:47Like what what is it like? How do you like what are you actually measuring your success based off of? You know, when you reach a fixed and proper world, how do you know you've reached it? And again, these are just these are just questions that I feel like uh like anybody would look at this and have so much certainty. I can't imagine the certainty that. So, not only do you feel like you know what happens after death and the reason why we're here, the reason why you're here, if you are Jewish, is you are one of the chosen people by God and you're awaiting the Messiah to come and, you know, embrace the the new world that you're helping to fix.

1:00:46That's a lot of pressure. That's a lot of pressure. It's like I got to do what? So, I'm just a a fallible human just like everybody else. You know, I I bleed red just like everybody else. I I got to do what? I don't want that. I don't want that responsibility. And maybe that's something that one of the reformed Jewish people, I think is what it's saying, maybe even one of the conservative, like as long as you're not one of the orthodox, you're not like very like devout. This has to be, you know, one, two, three, there's no veering off of this path. You know, you got to follow this plan or else. I don't know. I just know that being a kid growing up with that type of pressure must feel like a lot if you actually believe with 100% certainty that it's true.

1:01:51But then again, maybe that's me outside looking in. Maybe that's where that intoxicating clarity actually feels good. Like we as people, we love purpose. like it it fuels us. That's like the best the best way to have that that dopamine that we we all crave is not through scrolling on Instagram or Tik Tok or whatever. It's actually having a goal and a purpose and, you know, going after said goal or purpose and achieving micro wins and having, you know, a a late ass night because you're trying to crack this problem that took you so long and you finally did crack it at 4 in the morning and it was completely worth it to not have basically any sleep for the whole week. And that's just, you know, how it goes because you've found your purpose. You have your clarity. I could see it being a pressure that's good, too.

1:02:56Not all pressure is bad. I guess not all pressure is overwhelming. It could be healthy. It could feel like a moral reason to continue every single day to try and be better. Maybe that's what all of these different religions or answers to life's questions are. They're just they're just ways to go through life and feel certain about what you're doing to feel like you are morally correct. You don't have to question what you're doing and to is it good or is it bad. You have your principles that you're going off of. Now, Islam actually does believe Jesus was the Messiah, but still strictly not God.

1:03:59They believe he was a prophet, specifically a prophet of Islam, because they believe the same God gave different revelations to different prophets over the years, but these revelations gradually got corrupted. So, God gave the final and perfect revelation to Muhammad in the Quran. They see Islam as the fulfillment of Christianity and Judaism. So, they do believe Jesus was a very important prophet. They believe he was the promised messiah and they even believe he was born to a virgin. But they do not believe he was God and they do not believe he rose from the dead. They believe that he didn't even die. God just made it appear that way. Muslims believe that the Quran is the direct word of God. It's

1:04:40All right. Before cuz he's talking uh real fast about all this. Okay. All right. So Jesus pops up again. He's in Christianity. He's in uh Judaism. He's in Islam. Okay, there might be something with this this Jesus guy. You know, this this fella might have been around. For real. I find it very interesting when you see different religions agree on something. And based off of the religions I just said, Jesus was definitely a real person. Whether you believe he was God, whether you believe he was the Messiah, whether you believe he was just some guy that happened to live down the street from you and you just trying to, I don't know, find your donkey or some I don't know, bro.

1:05:36I don't know what they did back then. You know what I'm saying? Whether you just looked at Jesus as just some guy that didn't mean much and you don't know what the fuss is all about. Jesus obviously was there. He had to have been right. And they're claiming that the Torah or whatever the the two previous versions before the final version that was the uh the the one that was uncorrupted, the previous two had been corrupted somehow. My guess is by man. I wonder exactly how they're looking at that like it got corrupted like the they're saying, "Okay, maybe something got taken out, something got added in." What are we What exactly are we talking about?

1:06:31Is it just because of details? Like, no, no, Jesus didn't really die that God made it appear that way. Um, you know what I'm saying? like where where they these small but significant, you know, in their eyes details that it needed to be changed and this was the corruption because it isn't exactly what happened and you're doing it wrong. You're going to tell the story, well, you might as well tell it correctly. version three. I guess my first thought is just if the first two versions got corrupted, what would give people the certainty that the third wouldn't get corrupted as well somewhere down the line? Maybe not at first. Maybe for a while it was great, but eventually that same certainty that people have that the other previous, you know, versions, they got corrupted without a doubt.

1:07:38I got faith. I believe this one, this third one, it's the correct one for sure. that same certainty that they had that the other ones got corrupted. They have the same certainty that the one that they have has not been corrupted and you know will never be corrupted. I'm not sure. And I guess I the word certainty is popping up so many times in this episode and I think you can you can really swap it out with faith. Feel like uh that's why faith is a word used so many times in religion. It's just you're taking a leap. This is my team.

1:08:37And sometimes I guess the cynical part of my brain is just like, man, these are just people being people. This is just evolution playing out except we're just a little bit smarter, a little bit more sophisticated, a little bit more civilized. But you see it in politics. You see it with genders. You see it with races. You see it with what street you grew up on. You see it with what high school you go to. You see it with what team sport you root for and whatever the sport that you watch. You see it in so many things where people find their tribe. They find a team and they stick with them as long as they can. No, no, no. I I I don't want to hear nothing else. Nothing else. My team says, you see it time and time again.

1:09:34You've seen it over the course of history. It's really hard not to look at all of this and just be like, "See, we're doing it again. We're just finding our team." No, this is the real story. No, this is the real answer. Um, yeah. It feels like it feels like it's one of those get on my team or you lose. Believe the things I believe or you're an enemy. You're condemned. You're not the chosen people.

1:10:34And don't worry, you have the ability to convert. And come on over to our side. Eventually, we'll have an entire world filled with people that are only us. People that are only on our team that believe our answer. Because people people are so likely to chase power and power is so likely to lead to tyranny. It's really hard not to look at all of these different answers or religions or can what however you want to look at it. It's really hard not to look at them as just people saying I'm right, you're wrong.

1:11:38It's a popularity contest of well the people over here they typically believe that the people over there they typically believe that and you sprinkle a few some people you know uh migrate over here and taking all of the faith and the belief and the I'm getting upset because you're talking about what I was you know raised with and taking all of the emotion out of It really just feels like everybody's claiming to know what the answer is. And I think that's why when they do agree on some like so many different religions talk about some enormous flood that hits the earth, man, there might have been a flood. Multiple religions talk about some Jesus guy that was doing great things.

1:12:34There might have been a guy named Jesus doing some great things. I just feel like there's some There's so many things that not only are made up, it's like statistically like let's let's be real. How likely is it that it isn't made up? That somebody doesn't feel hasn't felt some somewhere down the line like ah yeah see I am the all knowing one and I know what the true stories are. You know what I mean? And then they're changing it up and then it's like that's where they felt their sense of self and sense of power and all of that. That's where they got their little ego trips. They didn't have whatever. Like they didn't have cops that uh go and do crazy ass things just because they were, you know, they only got a badge just to scratch that I have the power itch that some bad cops have. Obviously not all of them, but you know what I'm saying?

1:13:32Like the way that those type of personalities that exist today, the way that they are portrayed today will not be the same as they were portrayed before. You know, before it would have been more likely like no, like I am um one of these uh gurus that the the I think it was the Hindus. Isn't that what it said? But one of one of the priests, one of the gurus, one of the one of the people that has the answers. Don't worry, God speaks through me. I feel like that was just so much more likely than uh it just makes it really hard to take any of this with 100% seriousness. With 100% I am certain. I got faith. There's no way. It's version three. The last two got corrupted. Not this one. We're good now.

1:14:29Don't worry. They say history is written by the winners or the victor. I just can't help but think that a little bit of that plays into it. Who gets to dictate what is corrupted? Who got to dictate that version one and version two were corrupted? But version three is good. Okay. Corrupted. How? How is yours not corrupted? What if they say that you changing it the way you did actually corrupted it and you're the one who's corrupt and this is like all I don't know. Like I was about to say false prophet. I don't think it's the same type of thing. But you know what I mean? Like it's all You're just making up You're the one who's corrupting. But you just happen to win.

1:15:24I'm not saying that's what this is. Obviously. I don't know nearly enough about any religion obviously, but damn, humans, humans are very predictable. We have tendencies that are very predictable. And no matter if it's the modern days, if it's the industrial age, if it's the fill in the blank, you notice how people continue to act like people. It's just portrayed a little bit different as the times change.

1:16:09Flawless. It's eternal, and it's been perfectly preserved. And it also says how to submit to God. And that's very important because the meaning of Islam is to submit. God is ruler of the entire universe and all humans are called to submit to God. And eventually God is going to reward those who do good and punish those who do evil. And if you want to know how to do good by submitting to God, there's five big ways to do so. The biggest focus of Islam is the fact that there is only one God. There is nothing like God. And God is so pure and so far above the universe that God couldn't possibly become human. Christianity is very different, however, because it teaches God only one God. That's Well, that's what I'm saying. That certainty. That certainty. There's too many There's too many good people. There's too many good people on all sides of the fence that would be condemned, man.

1:17:08It just doesn't make sense. What if God, Allah, whatever, all the details might be changing, but what if everybody's just talking about the same thing, the same entity, being, the same creator

1:17:29Did become human. Christianity is all about Christ. Jesus is truly human just like the rest of us. But he's also truly God just like God the Father. And because he's truly human and truly God, he's the only one who can bridge the gap between humans and God. And there is a gap because God is perfect, almighty, and eternal. Whereas we humans are sinful, weak, and corrupted. But still, in his infinite love and mercy, God came down, became human, and died for our sins. and he rose from the dead and eventually is going to raise the rest of us from the dead as well. What's unique about Christianity is we don't actually have to be good enough for God because God already did that for us when he became human and died for us. So, we just need to be united to Christ and then we can participate in God's eternal life. Okay. Okay. So, Okay.

1:18:29That seems like a lot to unpack. You can you don't have to worry about being almighty or whatever because God sent Jesus down or God is Jesus. That has always confused me. But Jesus came and basically died for all of our sins. Because of that, you don't have to worry about being 100% perfect as long as you accept Christ. to be your savior. I think how we doing we're doing good, right? I guess I'm trying to I was trying to think of like the politically correct way, but it. What I think when I hear that is it just seems so in a negative way like selfdeprecating like just looking at us as humans as where just will will always be There's there's you obviously or is that just I don't know.

1:19:36I'm I'm I'm thinking through it. We we we thinking through this in real time right now. Um, maybe there's just like that Hannah Montana song, the nobody's perfect. You know what I'm saying? Sometimes you're in a jam. Um, maybe that's what it is. We're not perfect. Do not sit here and stress yourself over being perfect. Only God is perfect. You are on this earth not to be perfect but to follow God because we are less than perfect and God is perfect. I guess I guess okay that that sits better with me. Like the way he said it just it felt so it felt so like h like we're mud people.

1:20:34Um, you know, we'll never be like the almighty Christ and blas blas blas. You know, we have to bow our heads and praise him because thank God we are absolute garbage and we should be thanking him for being here. I don't know. I don't know that. Uh, yeah. I'm going to move on cuz that still don't sit right with me. I like the way I said it better. But how do we do that? For those who have faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit unites them to Christ. Because the Holy Spirit is the spirit of Christ and he's also the spirit of the father. These three persons have relationships with one another, but they're still all the same being. So, Christianity still only believes in one God. All of this is revealed in the Bible, which is the story about Jesus. Spoiler alert, Jesus wins in the end. He defeated death when he rose from the dead, and when he comes back, he's going to destroy all evil in the world.

1:21:32And make the world perfect. Just like he united God and man, Jesus is also going to unite heaven and earth. So all these religions teach very different.

1:21:42Wait, Christ Jesus is supposed to come back. So that's that's kind of like what um the the Jewish Jewish people were thinking that there's like a Messiah that'll come and fix the world. But Christians think, "Yeah, that uh that's that's happening." But it's going to be it's gonna be Jesus. He's going to be the Messiah. He's coming back. My boy Jesus is coming back. He came back once. He's going to do it again. Okay. Okay. Going to fix the world. What did does he need like a breather? Is it just like y'all think about what what you did? Like cool. What? I'm trying to Why the wait?

1:22:42Why the wait, you know? Why thousands of years? Why uh why wait to come back and to fix the world to vanquish all evil? Why why wait?
